family secretsmysterious deathpolice investigation
Running time: 50 minutes
Language: English
Maya Stern, a former soldier, who was released from the service, is facing another drama in her life - her husband Joe was shot dead in front of her while they were in the park at night. The two bikers, who she saw, were never found by the police, so the case of his death is so far unsolved. The detective in charge of this investigation, DS Sami Kierce, still have some doubts if Maya told him the whole truth, but so far his efforts brought no real progress in the case. To make things worse for him, a health problem he used to have in the past seems to be resurfacing and he experiences short blackouts. Meanwhile Maya is given a nanny cam hidden within a photo frame and shortly after she installed it at home, she saw something that astonished her. The camera have recorded Joe, alive, playing with their daughter in their house while Maya was away. Unable to explain what she just saw, she was trying to interrogate the nanny, who was at at that time, but the woman felt threatened, sprayed Maya with pepper spray and left.
Another adaptation of Harlan Coben novel, again based on quite similar formula to his previous works, where someone who is supposed to be dead suddenly seems to be alive and the main character cannot explain what happened. While the formula worked well in previous novels, here, in a form of a TV series, the plot seems to be spread rather thinly and the layers of mysteries that the characters are trying to uncover, just seems to be stretched beyond the point that the whole thing is just a bit boring. It is one thing to write a good novel, but it is hard to turn a single book into an 8-episode-long series, without losing the pace and the interest of the audience. Fool Me Once had some good elements, good cast, but the story was not interesting enough to justify turning it into a long series.
