Boat salvage crew under command of experienced Captain Sean Murphy is celebrating their last success and prepare to rest for a while ashore. When Canadian pilot Ferriman approaches them with news about a stranded ship in the Bering Sea the crew is skeptical whether the story is true, after all it is area with quite high traffic, so someone surely have already spot the ship. But when Ferriman tells them small detail that changes their minds - it is not some ordinary ship, it is a cruise liner, which means it could be worth fortune for them. Murphy wants to know some more details, but pilot is also counting on making some money on the deal and demands that he will only reveal the position of the abandoned ship if he can go with the salvage crew. Murphy is not happy about the terms, but finally agrees to take Ferriman with them. In poor weather they reach the area where pilot spotted the ship and almost collide with it. Ferriman was right, it is a cruise ship, but what is more it is the one Murphy was dreaming about finding - Italian ocean liner SS Antonia Graza that disappeared in 1962. The engines of the liner are dead, but rest seems to be in good enough shape to be hauled. This could be their biggest score... if they will find a way to actually move Antonia Graza. While they explore the luxury interiors strange things begin to happen.
Movie with ghost ship in the title must be a horror or at least thriller, but unfortunately this 2002 production has very little to do with both the genres. It has interesting atmosphere - abandoned ship found in the middle of the sea during the night seems to be a perfect setting for horror and I guess the creators were aiming to provide a horror, but the weak plot and poor directing fails to deliver even a single thrill. The cast was good, the setting was good, but with each scene the story goes worst and worst up to a point, when it begins to be unbearable. Shame, because the potential was there...
