In 1888, a series of brutal murders puts the district of Whitechapel in the attention of the whole country. An unknown serial killer, nicknamed Jack the Ripper, terrorises the whole London by murdering prostitutes. The police is still a new formation, not prepared to deal with such a case - Jack the Ripper clearly knows how to avoid being caught, he leaves behind nothing that could point the police investigation into the correct direction. Detective Frederick Abberline is assigned to track down the killer and to keep the outraged public calm. Abberline did not have much luck lately, which pushed him towards the alcohol, but for a case, igniting the whole London, he puts all of his skills into the use. The first thing he spots is the curious place the first victim was found in - if she was killed right there, someone must have heard anything. But there are no witnesses, which makes him believe she was killed somewhere else and her body was left on the street. And then the letters began to arrive...
A masterpiece of crime drama - wonderful cast, great plot based on actual events rather than legends around the case. Despite being a miniseries, it keeps the viewers on the edge of the seat. A must be seen!
