Death Cruise 1974 American mystery classic movie review
A cruise ship leaves United States for a trip around Carribbean. Aboard a new ship doctor, is assigned to entertain the passengers during a dinner the first night. Three married couples, who share the table with him, suddenly realize that they have something in common - they all won the tickets for this cruise in a contest, although none of them remember taking part in such contest. But since the tickets and all expenses for three weeks are covered by a mysterious company in charge of the contest, they try not to think about it. During that evening the tensions between the couples begin to show - Jerry Carter is a womanizer, who just can’t help himself from chasing after other women, even though he knows how this hurts his wife, Sylvia. David and Elizabeth Mason, couple with some experience, seem to grow apart after their children moved out of the family house. James and Mary Radney, the youngest of the couples, struggles to find a way to cope with the early years of the marriage, when they disagree about having the children. But all of those problems are pushed aside when Jerry Carter disappears after their dinner. The crew searches the boat, but there is no sign of him, all they find is his cigarette case on one of the decks. The captain assumes that Jerry fell overboard, but since his wife did not report him missing it is too late to do anything about it. But this is just the beginning of mysterious events.
A TV mystery movie that premiered on ABC in 1974. Despite being made for TV and in style similar to other shows of the era, the script is good enough to keep you guessing who and why is behind the murders of the passengers. It is not comparable to f.e. Columbo, but still interesting.
