King’s Game 2004 Danish mystery movie review
Journalist Ulrik Torp, son of a former justice minister, is assigned a new job - his magazine sends him to cover the Danish parliament in the midst of preparations for upcoming elections. Eleven days before the elections, the leader of the Centre Party and almost certain candidate to be the next Prime Minister, is injured in a car accident. He and his wife end up in a hospital and, while details of their health are not made public, the party calls an urgent meeting of the top officials with just one agenda - finding a new leader. Erik Dreyer and Lone Kjeldsen, two very different candidates, have emerged and the internal struggle for power begins. But Ulrik Torp and independent journalist, Henrik Moll, start to dig deeper into the story. Why are information about the health of the party leader so scarce?
Political thriller, which was dubbed "a Danish JFK", although this comparison is hard to justify. King’s Game is a rather cameral story presented through an entirely different scope than Oliver Stone’s epic masterpiece. There is an interesting atmosphere in King’s Game, there are interesting characters, but overall, it is not an unforgettable story that will make you think about the reality of the world around you.
