Radioland Murders 1994 American mystery thriller review
It’s the opening night for a new radio broadcasting network, WBN, which will transmit a live show from coast to coast of the United States and challenge to establish networks. It is the golden era of radio and everything will be played live in front of the audience gathered in the theatre. The atmosphere is tense, with sponsors interfering in the scripts, scriptwriters starting a strike for delayed wages and personal animosities between the staff members. But if that is not enough, someone starts to kill people involved in the production and one of the writers, Roger Henderson, becomes a prime suspect. Police tries to conduct the investigation while the show still goes on, which puts even more pressure on Roger. He has to solve the mystery, otherwise he will end up in jail, but also he has to stop Penny, producer on the show, from divorcing him.
The mixture of two old-fashioned kinds of entertainment: old time radio shows and whodunit mystery, with a hint of slapstick comedy. Radioland Murders had excellent script, perfectly recreated the atmosphere of old radio shows and the chaos of broadcasting live. Developed from an idea of George Lucas, with cast filled with well-known actors and clever script which mix the reality and the content of the show, it is a good comedy and pretty damn good mystery movie. The slapstick elements in the film fitted well with the era, in which the story takes place, although for a modern audience it might be a slight problem. Nevertheless, Mel Smith, British comedian, did an excellent job directing this movie.

I don^t care what people say, it is my favorite crime movie! I know the slapstick was a bad idea, but nevertheless it has a great atmosphere and quite funny moments.
