The Ghost Writer 2010 British mystery movie review
Former British Prime Minister, Adam Lang, hires a new ghostwriter to complete his memoirs. He has to replace the previous writer, Mike McAra, who unfortunately died in an accident during work on the book. But after arriving at a secluded estate on Martha’s Vineyard, where Lang and his wife Ruth are staying, the new ghostwriter becomes more and more suspicious about the drowning accident of his predecessor. He starts the investigation, which will take him deep into the past of Adam Lang. Meanwhile, Lang finds himself in the middle of potential legal problems for his involvement in the treatment of terrorism suspects while he was the Prime Minister, so the atmosphere around him begins to thicken.
Mystery movie with strong political motives - former politician, his energetic wife and their mysterious past, plus gloomy atmosphere of an Atlantic Ocean island and an excellent cast. The Ghost Writer has everything there is needed for a great thriller, yet the movie has its ups and downs and, to put it nicely, could have been better. The premise was interesting, but overall the tense atmosphere and the chain of events lead more or less to nowhere.
