The Night Listener 2006 American mystery movie review
Gabriel Noone is a host of a radio phone-in show, and one day he receives a phone message from his biggest fan, a young boy who has an interesting and shocking story of his life that he wants to share. As a kid, Pete was abused by his parents, who used him for some weird parties that involved other adults. Somehow he managed to recover from the trauma brought on him by his own parents, but now the boy is very ill. Gabriel and Pete often speak on the phone, but their friendship takes a nasty turn when Gabriel thinks about publishing a book with the story of Pete, and he wants to meet the boy. Some details of the story begin to fall apart, and Pete becomes really evasive about details.
The Night Listener is a surprisingly interesting mystery movie. A cast, including Robin Williams and Sandra Oh, would suggest that the production had a decent budget behind it, but as it often turns out, most of the money is spent on the cast and not the story. That is not the case with The Night Listener - the story is rather simple, the number of the character taking part is small, but the atmosphere and plot save this title.
