The Tall Man 2012 American mystery thriller review
The small mining town of Cold Rock, Washington is a sad place to live - since the mines were closed years ago, the locals seem to have lost any hope. They more exist in this poverty-stricken place than actually live. To add some more misery to their lives, their children left unattended began to disappear into a thin air. The legend of The Tall Man, who lives in the woods and shows up only to take a child in the middle of the night, is still alive among the residents. A local nurse, Julia Denning, whose husband died years earlier, gets involved in the case of the missing children when a small boy under her care is kidnapped. She saw a tall man grabbing him and driving away in a white van. She chased the car, but finally was unable to save the boy. Now she tries to find evidence that would prove that The Tall Man is real...
The film uses the dense atmosphere of a small town in the middle of nowhere as a background for a story, which on the surface seems almost like the dramas that you can see on TV. It is a small town that is completely helpless against a mystical-like character, who is taking away their children. The plot built around that atmosphere, even if at some points a far-fetched plot, actually works in this case. The interesting plot keeps the viewer involved until the very end, and a good cast keeps the film on a decent level.
