The Village 2004 American mystery film review
A small, isolated village is surrounded by forests inhabited by mysterious creatures. The creatures don’t attack the village any more, just as long as people stay away from the forest. If they do enter the forest, soon they turn up dead and mutilated, so the elders of the village stop giving permission to inhabitants to wander into the woods. This balance is disturbed when young Lucius Hunt decides to go into the forest, which brings the anger of the creatures not only upon him, but upon the village as a whole. The heavily wounded Lucius requires the medicine that is not available in the village, so elder Walker sends his blind daughter Ivy, accompanied by two young men, to try to cross the forest and bring what is necessary to save Lucius.
The film directed and written by M. Night Shyamalan offers an interesting plot that moves slowly (even too slowly for most viewers’ taste), offers rather poor quality visuals and what can only be described as a disappointing ending. It has all the trademarks of the Shyamalan productions, but the pacing problem and the handling of the story left a lot to be desired.
