Thin Ice 2011 American mystery film review
Insurance salesman Mickey Prohaska, from Wisconsin, is in deep trouble. He has financial problems, his wife kicked him out of the house, and he is desperate to finally catch a break. Unexpectedly, he stumbles upon a chance to change his life when he finds out that an old and lonely farmer, Gorvy Hauer, has a rare and very valuable violin in his house. Positive that that the absent-minded farmer does not realize the real value of the violin, Prohaska is anxious to buy them off him. Even the fact that he does not have enough money right now does not stop Prohaska from pushing forward with his plans, especially that an appraiser from Chicago gave him an estimate value of 25,000 USD. The whole transaction takes a nasty turn when an ex-con, Randy Kinney, finds out the value of the instrument and tries to buy it for himself. And then a dead body shows up...
Intriguing movie about a dishonest insurance salesman (something completely unheard of in the real life) who gets involved in a plan to earn some quick money. When things go wrong, he has to find out how far will he go to get the money. With good cast and story well put together, is it one of the overlooked gems of the genre.
