After they arrived to village Ivdel Yuri Yudin was forced to go back because of illness, which left nine people in the group. The hikers started to move through the pass and were planning to set the camp on the other side, but due to poor weather conditions (heavy snow) they lost the way and started climbing up the hill. When they realized the situation they decided to set up the camp where they were rather than moving back to the forested area that would give them some shelter from snowstorm.
