Voynich Manuscript
The manuscript history
The origins of the manuscript are unknown, it was discovered in 1912 when it was purchased at the Villa Mondragone near Rome, by Polish antique book dealer Wilfrid Voynich (original name Wilfrid Michal Habdank-Wojnicz). Only small parts of the book history are known, like that it was once owned by Emperor Rudolf II in 16th century and several scientists. There are no records what happened with the manuscript since it was sent to Athanasius Kircher in Italy. Most probably the book was stored with other legacy of Kircher in Rome, but until 1912 we don’t know what happened with it.
