Death of Isidor Fink
Murder theory
Since the suicide theory was rather unlikely explanation (since the weapon was missing) the police suspected murder.
There were two theories: a small man entered through the transom and left the same way or someone shot Fink through the transom without entering the apartment at all.
Facts that are supporting the theory:
- neighbours heard the screams coming from the apartment,
- no weapon was found inside the house,
- wounds looked like they were effect of murder rather than suicide.
Facts that oppose the theory:
- no obvious reasons behind the murder (no known enemies, money left on the scene),
- rather unlikely way in and out of the apartment for the murderer,
- no explanation for the murderer to put so much effort in entering and leaving the apartment closed from the inside,
- no fingerprints found in the apartment, apart from those left by Isidor Fink himself,
- the wound on the wrist was powder-marked, which suggest that Fink was shot from short range, which makes the theory about shooting through transom impossible.

Death of Isidor Fink comments
The whole point of silencer is to make the shot sound not like a shot, but the silencer theory is weak, because silencers were developed in late 19th century, so it is unlikely that someone would use a piece of equipment that is hard to get your hands on to kill some penniless immigrant in a tiny apartment for no particular reason.

Have you guys considered that the killer might be one of the Mr Fink’s neighbours. Here’s the reason of my conjecture: I looked at Wikipedia, stating that the neighbours called the police as soon as they heard the scream, hence it is almost impossible for the killer to escape. However, the killer( pretending that he is a neighbour of Fink) might have just slipped past by calling the police.

Gun silencers dont actually silence guns except on tv. They do change the sound and make it hard to pinpoint where its coming from. You can see videos of what gun silencers sound like on YouTube. So thats probably not the explanation for why a gun wasnt heard.
