Korean Air Lines Flight 007
Technical errors
The simplest explanation to the events that led to shooting down KAL 007 is a chain of technical errors - on the plane and on the ground.
Facts that are supporting the theory:
- the Anchorage VOR beacon (that would allow the crew of KAL 007 to check their real course) was not operational that night because of maintenance,
- civilian and military American radars tracked the flight to be north of the planned route, but couldn’t do anything about it because of their computer system limitation,
- Russian radar system was damaged for few days before the incident, which caused the delay in interception of KAL 007,
- for unknown reason pilots of Boeing were most probably not aware that they are off the course (might be autopilot error).
Facts that oppose the theory:
- American reconnaissance plane Boeing RC-135 with powerful radar was present in the area, but did not warn KAL 007 about the danger.
Do you have what it takes to solve a case like this?
