Rongorongo
Rongorongo is unknown script examples of which were discovered on Easter Island. It was first reported by a French missionary, Eugene Eyraud, in 1864, but according to him at that time not many people on the island were able to read it. In tradition only priests and ruling families were literate, but none of them survived the epidemics and raids of slave traders.
Only about 25 examples of Rongorongo survived to our times and since no one can tell the meaning of the symbols we can’t even be sure if it is actually writing or something else. Also the symbols in Rongorongo doesn’t seem to be similar with petroglyphs around the island.
