First company arrives

Around 1803 first company arrived to Oak Island with goal of retrieving what was believed to be a hidden treasure at the bottom of the hole, to be later called the Money Pit. The Onslow Company from Truro started the dig from the point McGinnis stopped 8 years earlier. They continued the excavation down to about 90 feet and found layers of logs or "marks" about every 10 feet and layers of charcoal, putty and coconut fibre at 40, 50 and 60 feet.

According to some sources at 80-90 feet they recovered a large stone bearing an inscription of symbols. Several researchers attempted to decipher the symbols and one of them came up with message that reads "forty feet below, two million pounds lie buried".

Soon they also discovered that water have flooded the pit up to 30 feet and no pumps could helped to get rid of it. After several attempts they gave up the whole excavation all together.
