Smolensk air crash

Lech Kaczynski

Lech Kaczynski was the 4th President of Poland since the end of communism in 1989. He served as president from 2005 until 2010, the time of his death in the Smolensk air crash. He and his brother Jaroslaw, the leader of Law and Justice party (PiS) were politicians with very strong views anti... well, pretty much anti-everything. They were against the European Union, close relations with Germany and any relations with Russia. They were often criticized for their 19th century style in politics - regarding xenophobic patriotism as a base for the future. At the time of the air crash, he had only illusory chances to be re-elected.
