Texarkana Moonlight Murders

Fourth attack

Fourth attack was completely different from previous ones - this time the Phantom Killer attacked Virgil and Katie Starks, residents of a secluded farm near Texarkana on 3 May 1946. Virgil was shot twice into back of his head through the window on the back of the house. Katie didn’t hear the gunshots, but she did heard the glass being smashed. She went downstairs and found her husband dead. While she was at the phone trying to contact police the assailant shot her twice in the head from the same window. Despite heavy injury he managed to run away through the front door. First she tried nearby house, where her sister lived, but there was no one home. She ran further down the road to next house where she collapsed from the loss of blood after telling the neighbour that her husband was killed.
