Hwaseong serial killer events

Hwaseong serial killer theories

Hwaseong serial killer

Modus operandi

All of the victims were attacked in the rural area, in secluded places, all of them were attacked after dark. All of this would suggest someone who knows the area well since he knew were to attack and not be seen or heard, also he knew the area well enough to move in the dark.

All of the attacks took place in roughly same area, which again suggest that the killer lived locally or knew the area very well (perhaps he grew up there), even though the area was under surveillance from police and everyone around heard about the attacks he wasn’t afraid to be caught. If he would be a stranger in the area his presence could have gather attention of the locals and put him in danger. So obviously he did not have problem with wandering around the area looking for victims without seem strange to the locals.

All of the victims were bound and raped, which leaves very little to imagination when it comes to the motives of the assailant. He used the victims clothes to bound, which leads to conclusion that he did not plan or make preparations for the attacks, he acted on the impulse. Also clearly he was able to overpower his victims without using f.e. ropes.

Since he was in his 20s at the moment of the attacks the cruelty of his actions would suggest he was (or is) most likely a psychopath. The range of the victims age, between 14 and 71, also suggests that he might have been retarded or could not control his sexual urges (similar cases of serial killers and sexual predators slow in mind were recorded in other countries), but on the other hand the killer managed to avoid the large scale investigation for 10 years, which means he was able enough to keep low profile or be above suspicion.

There is another theory surrounding the killings - all of them took place during rainy nights and before the killings someone was ordering the same song to be played in the local radio. This would oppose the theories about killer acting on the impulse or being retarded, but even if this is true the police did not manage to find any such links that would lead them to the assailant. There is one weak point of this theory - ordering the song on the rainy night is one thing, but how the killer could be sure that on that particular night he will find a victim - a woman walking alone in the secluded area?
