Kidnapping of Lindbergh baby

Body is found

Over two months after the kidnapping, on May 12, 1932 delivery driver William Allen pulled his truck on the side of the road and went into bushes to relieve himself. But between the trees he has found body of Charles Lindbergh Jr. The place was about 4.5 miles away from Lindbergh home. The body was badly decomposed, and autopsy revealed that the skull of baby was fractured. The body had teeth marks of various animals and looked like someone have tried to bury it. Lindbergh and Gow quickly identified the baby as the missing infant based on the overlapping toes of the right foot and the shirt that Gow had made for the baby. They assumed that the child was killed by a blow to the head and soon after Charles Lindbergh insisted on having the body cremated.

The coroner’s examination showed that the child had been dead for about two months and that death was caused by a blow on the head. This would mean that Lindbergh Jr was killed soon after the kidnapping (if not on the same night) and the later negotiations with kidnappers were pursued after the death of a child.
