D.B. Cooper

The hijack

Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 from Portland to Seattle, the passenger named Dan Cooper with black briefcase bought a ticket and boarded the Boeing 727. While in the air he passed a note stating "I have a bomb in my briefcase. I will use it if necessary. I want you to sit next to me. You are being hijacked." to one of the flight attendants. He opened the briefcase and showed her something that could have been a bomb. Then he dictated his demands: $200,000, four parachutes (two primary and two reserve) and a fuel truck standing by in Seattle to refuel the aircraft upon arrival.

Everything was prepared accordingly to Coopers demands, he rejected the military-issue parachutes initially offered by authorities, demanding instead civilian parachutes with manually operated ripcords, which were provided by the police. After that he released the passengers. During refuelling Cooper outlined his flight plan to the pilots: a south-east course toward Mexico City at the minimum airspeed possible without stalling at a maximum 10,000 feet altitude.

While in the air Cooper closed the crew in the cockpit and left for the aft airstairs. Crew saw the indicator lit on that the airstairs had been deployed and later that the door were opened. As they landed at Reno Airport FBI agents and police have surrounded the plane just to find that Cooper is no longer aboard.
