Despite case gathering a lot of attention, local police force does not make much progress, so Commissioner Mayne sends a Scotland Yard detective Inspector Jack Whicher to the village to help them. Whicher already solved few high-profile cases and Mayne has every confidence that Whicher is the right man for the job. From a get-go inspector focuses on the Kent family: the father, stepmother and teenage sister of the victim. He is convinced that someone from the household is behind the death of young Saville, but soon he begins to feel that people are hiding information from him.
Miniseries based on true crime cases solved by real life Scotland Yard detective Jack Whicher, starting with his most famous case, the Murder at Road Hill House. It is an interesting look at the 19th century police work not like it was described in fiction - it is not another Sherlock Holmes story, it is a real-life crime story that involved real people. While the first film in the series, The Murder at Road Hill House, had very good cast and interesting case, the other three were not that great.
