In a fictitious European country, president Marc Jarry is assassinated while his open-top car stops in the middle of the street, surrounded by the public. The killer armed with a sniper rifle is spotted on the top of the building and killed by an unknown person when he tried to escape. The official investigation supports the theory of a lone gunman with mental problems as the culprit, but attorney general Henri Volney refuses to sign the final report. He is given the permission to continue the investigation and find the answers to all the questions he has put during the televised interview. He slowly reveals all the elements that put together could reveal a conspiracy theory.
Clearly I... comme Icare is a story of JFK assassination told as it would take place in some fictitious country. But instead of simply presenting the investigation, creators ask the questions that were never asked in the JFK case. If the long gunman is a madman, as it is presented in official conclusions, is he mad and thus shot the president or is he considered mad because he shot the president? If he wasn’t alone, then what inspired him to kill the politician? If he was only a scapegoat, how could anyone be entangled in a conspiracy without realizing it?
Great movie, definitely worth knowing if not for the JFK theory, then for the things we can all learn about ourselves - what can push us to do things, we can’t imagine we would do in normal circumstances, even if it means killing a nation leader.
Do you have what it takes to solve a case like this?
