While on vacation in Europe American couple, Chris and Natalie, make a short stop in Kiev to visit Chris’ brother, Paul, before heading to Moscow, where Chris plans to propose to Natalie. Paul comes up with an idea of taking them on a trip to Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, area closed from civilian access after the 1986 nuclear disaster. Chris is reluctant to go, but finally agrees to join Paul and his girlfriend. Together with two more tourists they hire local guide, Yuri, who takes them in his van into the exclusion zone. During their visit to abandoned city of Pripyat, formerly inhabited by Chernobyl nuclear power plant workers, they visit the empty houses. In one of them they hear strange noises and in one of the apartments they stumble upon a bear. Even though he seemed to be more scared of them than they of him, Yuri decides they have to head back to the van. He wants to leave the zone before the nightfall. When they reach the car Yuri can’t start the engine. It turns out that something or someone destroyed some of the electric cables. The night is coming and they are stuck in small van in the middle of exclusion zone with no contact with outside world. To make things worse they still have no idea who could have destroyed the cables in area, where there are no people...
Interesting idea (although it seems to be inspired by the Stalker computer games) for the story to be set in the exclusion area around Chernobyl, where empty houses and dark tunnels are creating amazing atmosphere. Unfortunately the creators used only very limited part of the potential that Pripyat creates and interesting mystery movie quickly turns into average horror flick. Still it is decent production comparing to most of the horror productions.
