The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine theories

The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine

Legend

The Lost Dutchman’s Mine is most probably only a legend, one of many in the American West. Although the story is quite colourful, there are no evidence to support the events depicted.

Facts that are supporting the theory:

  • there are no records of Miguel Peralta as owner of the mine in the area, nor the attack of Apaches,
  • there are several different versions of the story, which may suggest that it was just work of fiction rather than based on facts,
  • it isn’t the only such story about lost gold mine, if there wouldn’t be the death of Adolph Ruth it would remain just a local tale,
  • geological analysis of Superstition Mountains suggest that it is impossible that gold would be present in the area,
  • just like with Bermuda Triangle, the number or death of disappearances in Superstition Mountains could be similar to the statistics from other areas or slightly elevated since many amateurs are entering this place without proper experience,
  • the number of bodies without heads is disturbing, but in the secluded area, where there are a lot of wild animals, it could be natural that dead bodies are ate by coyotes or other carnivores,
  • even if there is some sort of conspiracy to keep people away from the area or kill them if they are too close to finding the mine it would take few generations of dedicated guards to make it possible over 150 years.

Facts that oppose the theory:

  • according to author John D. Wilburn, Bulldog Gold Mine near Goldfield, Arizona fits the description from the Peralta story, so it could be real story that simply took place in different area,
  • some of the people presented in the stories are real, although their stories are different from the legend, so again perhaps it is true story with mistakes that were added when it was repeated from one man to another.

The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine comments

No mystery at all about the most recent trio. They went into the desert for a 3 day hike IN JULY with sleeping bags, two jugs of water each, and no experience.
