Pearl Harbor attack theories

Pearl Harbor attack

The surprise attack

As their plan was moving forward the Japanese saw the American Pacific Fleet as the only threat in the area. The Pacific Fleet consisted of few battleships, 3 airplane carries and several smaller ships. The Japanese navy planned to make a surprise attack on main American base on Pacific, the Pearl Harbor on Hawaii, where they expected to find all the major warships trapped in a small harbor.

 - The surprise attack

They planned to use the force of 6 aircraft carriers to move close to Hawaii and deploy the deadly strike using the torpedo planes supported by bombers and fighters. At the same time Japanese diplomats were preparing the background for attack sending the note to American government consisted of 14 part. The last part, that actually was declaration of war, would be delivered on the day of the attack.

The attack was a great Japanese success - out of 8 battleships in the harbor 4 were sunk, 3 heavily damaged and one grounded. But luckily for the Americans all of their aircraft carriers were away from the harbor, so they were ready to fight Japanese straight away. Americans were devastated with all the deaths and losses and didn’t hesitate to declare war on Japan.
