The High Rock

Wysoki Kamien (literally High Rock) is a 1058 meters high mountain in southern Poland, to be exact in Bardzkie Mountains, that are part of the Sudetes near the border with Czech Republic and Germany. Before World War 2 this area was part of Germany and hence the mountain was called Der Hohe Stein (High Rock in German). The area is known for natural beauty, but also for reports of unusual events. One of them took place on the Wysoki Kamien in 1966 when four youngsters took a trip to the top of the mountain.

In 1837 the owners of the land, Schaffgotsch family, built a mountain hostel at the top of Wysoki Kamien and they called it Hochsteinbaude. It was one of the first such hostels in whole Sudetes, in 1875 they have also built the sightseeing tower, but 7 years later the whole object burnt down. Even though it was rebuilt World World 2 brought a misery for Hochsteinbaude - the hostel was abandoned, after the war was looted and devastated. In 1947, now on Polish territory it was reopened, but due to poor maintenance in 1962 the hostel was closed and a year later dismantled completely.

There were several legends surrounding those mountains - during the war it was rumoured that German forces took good care not to let the locals near them, it was rumoured that they were planning to build their a secret laboratory, other believed that they did hide something there (the story varied from Amber Room to secret weapon), there was rumour that Scandinavian SS soldiers used to guard that area. But also there were different stories - that strange lights were seen on the mountains, that it is not safe to go there after dark and finally that ghosts are visiting the area during the nights.

Do you have what it takes to solve a case like this?

It sounds completely like an urban legend. As I was reading I was thinking exactly what is written here: What are the names of the boys? Was there a police report? What happened to the families of the boys? NONE of that is reported, for some odd reason. I recall another urban legend years ago that several students at the University of Chicago had followed the instructions in the Bible to build a new Ark of the Covenant, but it turned out to be "too powerful" and so they destroyed it. Yeah RIGHT! The names of the students should have been easily verified, as well as the class that they were building this "New Ark of the Covenant" yet NOTHING ever came up to verify it.
