Disappearance of Flight MH 370

Debris found

On 29th July 2015 debris that were identified as parts of Boeing 777 were found on the beach on the French island of Reunion. Reunion is located in the south-western part of Indian Ocean, close to Madagascar, which is about 3500 km away from the area where it is suspected the Flight MH370 has ended in the ocean.

Over 500 days since the disappearance the debris were identified as right wing flaperon from a Boeing 777 and, since no other such plane was lost over Indian Ocean, it is assumed this is part of Flight MH370. The part is damaged and is covered with goose barnacles (Lepas anatifera) - their amount would suggest that it was in the water for over a year. The distance between Reunion and the area the rescue teams were searching, comparing to speed of ocean currents in the region, seems to confirm that it would take that long for debris to reach Reunion.

The person, who found the debris, Johnny Begue working for local council, told the media that he previously found some debris on the beach, but until the discovery of flaperon he did not identified them as parts of a plane.
