JFK assassination

The lone gunman

The official theory known as "the lone gunman" is very simple - Lee Harvey Oswald, being person with mental problems and ostentatiously showing his aversion to president Kennedy and his policy, planned the assassination alone. As worker in Book Depository he smuggled Carcano rifle into the building and hid it. On November 22, 1963, while other workers were watching the presidential column passing by he took the rifle and shot three times killing the president Kennedy and causing wounds to Texas Governor John Connally sitting in the car in front of JFK. Then he put the rifle away and taking advantage of confusion left the building.

Later near the corner of East 10th Street and North Patton Avenue he allegedly was stopped by policeman J.D. Tippit. According to official version Oswald shot the Tippit dead and runaway. About half an our later Oswald was seen acting suspiciously and entered a movie theatre without paying, where later he was captured.

Facts that are supporting the theory:

  • Oswald did some strange things in the past, like leaving United States to move to Soviet Union (which during Cold War was very unusual) and then coming back,
  • Oswald did buy by mail the Carcano rifle that was later found in the Book Depository,
  • Oswald was in the Book Depository during the shooting, although we don’t know his exact location,
  • Oswald did leave the building after the shooting, just before police sealed the Book Depository off,
  • Oswald was trained in US marines in 1950s and did passed the test for sharpshooter.

Facts that oppose the theory:

  • Carcano was old-fashioned rifle, it wasn’t the best weapon for such use and the one found in Book Depository wasn’t accurate,
  • according to sound records from assassination the three shots were fired within about 5 to 7 seconds in which time it is impossible to reload Carcano and aim again three times,
  • the column of cars was moving towards the Book Depository with low speed, made the narrow turn and the shots were not fired until the presidential car moved away from the building as far as about 80 meters (262 feet) which is highly doubtful choice for a single shooter,
  • the number of wounds caused by the alleged shots made by Oswald is much too high to believe only three shots were fired (the magic bullet theory),
  • some of the evidence to prove Oswald was a madman were clearly forged (like famous backyard photos).

Of course there is another thing, which isn’t of course the evidence, but since the investigation after the killing was ran in sloppy way (to say the least) and the fact that a lot of documents have not been released for reasons of national security it shows that this theory, is just too simple to be true.
