Glenn Miller disappearance

Heart attack theory

German journalist Udo Ulfkotte, after analysing the American and German intelligence papers, came up with another theory - that Glenn Miller actually arrived to Paris safely on December 14, but died of heart attack on December 15 while spending time with a French prostitute. The theory assumes that the flight never took place and it was a cover story prepared by the American army.

Similar theories were spreading earlier, but usually assuming that Miller arrived in Paris and have died in car accident while in the company of a woman (sometimes it was famous singer, sometimes wife of a general).

Facts that are supporting the theory:

  • as for very famous man, as Glenn Miller, there was very little pressure from army officials to solve the mystery,
  • there were rumours that David Niven have left out days around the December 15 in his autobiography and was rather reluctant to talk about Miller, even though they knew each other very well and worked together.

Facts that oppose the theory:

  • it is unlikely that the disappearance would be such a good cover story for Miller’s death - it would took a lot of effort to create the false flight from England, disposing of the body, bribing the prostitute, etc. and would involve a lot of people while simple "he died of heart attack in his hotel room" or "he died in unfortunate car accident" would achieve same level of safe explanation for whatever happened to Miller,
  • if it was truth that Miller would arrive in Paris he would have been seen by people on the airport, in the hotel, army base, etc. and since he was well known figure it would be very unlikely that no one would remember seeing him alive in Paris.
